Definition
Analytical text is a type of text that contains an opinion that informs readers about the discussion related to a phenomenon or issue.
Generic structure
Thesis
Introduces the topic and shows the author's point of view.
Argument
Describes arguments to support the author's position.
Reiteration
Restates the author's point of view / to reinforce the thesis. We can use the following phrases to make a conclusion in reiteration.
Purpose
a. Provides information of a phenomenon
b. Convinces the reader because there is an opinion
c. Text that contains facts
d. Provides education
e. A place to have an opinion
Language features of analytical text
Focus on generic human and non-human participants.
Use mental processes. It is used to state what the writer or speaker thinks or feels about something. For example: realize, feel, etc.
Use material processes. It is used to state what happens. For example: pollute, grab, write, etc.
Use of simple present tense.
Subject + is / am / are + Object + Adverb
Subject + Verb 1 s/ es + Object + Adverb
Use of internal conjunction to state argument. For example: in addition, moreover, then, alternatively, at first, finally.
Reasoning through casual conjunction or nominalization. For example:
Casual conjunction: because, because of, since, for.
Nominalization (the noun forms of verbs): the rapid increase in crime was causing concern among the police.

Social media is a digital platform for conducting social activities for its users. In using social media, of course, users are faced with various sophisticated and modern features, so that they can easily access and search for various data and information on a global scale. Of course, this is often misused for negative purposes. Social media is synonymous with students. It seems rare to find students who do not use social media, even elementary school children are familiar with social media. This is where parents must actively control the use of social media by their underage children so that they do not become victims of social media.
According to a survey I conducted on January 22, 2023, regarding the use of social media by students, all students are active on social media. 51.8% of them often find violence on social media. Of course, this is what qualifies social media as negative media.Violence is often found in cases such as bullying and judging someone. Some of them also claimed to have been the perpetrators of bullying on social media for reasons of dislike for someone. It seems like it has become normal for violence to occur on social media. And it is common to find cases of violence that occur on social media.
On the one hand, there are also those who think that social media also has a positive impact on human life. If used and utilized properly, it will become a convenience.
